Foy Vance

on the road again…..

June 11, 2011

….well… I finished the Irish leg of the tour last week and made a start on the UK leg…soon as both legs are sorted I’ll have them walk me into the sunset. It’s been great, tiring, inspiring, emotional, spicy, Guinness induced, hungry, gluttonous, uncomfortable, luxurious and a lot of other adjectives that don’t come to mind at present. Belfast was a real highlight.  Every time I play Belfast I wish my Dad was there to see it and on this occasion that desire was all too consuming…. hope I didn’t bend your ear Belfast(?) either way, thanks for the free counselling!
Had an interesting one in Limerick too. My gear completely packed up and I had to do an acoustic show, which was frustrating from the point of view that my gear stopped working, but liberating in that I explored new territory. I know I don’t use the loop station for the whole set or anything but it is a great tool if you want to go somewhere with a bit more grandeur; had to find new ways to get there.
Whether I got there or not is another thing.  That’s for Limerick to decide. I started the tour with my two Lowdens and  my tele, and half way through I now have three Lowdens, a tele, a mando-guitar and a bass six…… I’m like a wood magnet! The Lowden factory was inspiring as always.  I’m like a cop in a donut shop there! It’s just so hard to say no. I played a few songs for the staff which was a good – if unexpected – moment. The big man at Lowden took us for lunch at Fast Eddies.  It’s on it’s own island.  Fish, chips and Guinness over looking the water on a clear day in Ireland is hard to beat! I did a session for Ralph Mclean at BBC Radio Ulster the morning after the Belfast show…. having played nearly three hours the night before and then sat up with a couple of mates chewing the fat till 5am…. boy did it feel rough.  Ralph said your voice sounds whiskey soaked…. little did he know…… Anyway, just firing out some arbitrary facts of the last few days…. more meaningless meandering to come.  As for now, it’s off to Leeds for a gig in the Brudenell Social Club with Marcus Foster (who you simply have to see!)….. also Rams Pocket Radio was the support on the Irish tour and will be doing Manchester and Glasgow with me this week; truly another must see! Till we speak again…. Slán agus beannacht leat.
