Camping, marraige and Micro Society
Monday, 04 August 2008
My head feels like a primordial soup at the minute, but unless there's some sort of evolution pretty soon, a big skin of blue mould is gonna blanket the lot!I've just come back from a camping trip on the East Coast of England...
Camping's like a power cut or surgery... in that there's a real sense of camaraderie amongst the people about you: I like it!
We had many neighbours over the few days as most people stopped off for one night then shipped on...what's that about!?... it never took more than an hour or so for people to make contact though...
what's you're first thought there?
...funny how we've become so insular that the first thought that comes to mind is "what a pain in the arse!"... did you think that too?
I did at first!
but then I really enjoyed it... aside from one guy how could've talked until your ear drums bleated like a lamb in distress. It was cool though; I've known a lot of people like that in my life so I know how to deal with it...
just stop listening and go on about you business...
even should they be in mid sentence, just sit down and close your eyes and face the sun and sooner or later they'll stop... well... not stop, but move onto someone else, which in the world of individualism is as good as....
What was I just saying about camaraderie? Maybe I just observe these things but don't enter in!?
Ah well.. sure screw them all... What have they ever done for me... ;)
Apparently one shouldn't think like that you know...every man/woman on his/her own represents humanity!
I know that cause I read it in a book called 'Humanism and Existentialism' that my brother gave me... it was shit; not a single picture!
He's married now... my brother that is! He called me on Friday to tell about this great cruise he was about to go on..."it's stops in Barcelona, Geneva, a few places in Italy... it's gonna be great man. Oh yeah, and I'm getting married at 11am tomorrow..."
I'm very glad that you've all been representing humanity on the site here by commenting your thoughts about music etc... it's been like a like micro society...passion, annoyance, forgiveness and comedy... it had it all...
Keep it coming...I won't close my eyes and look at the sun...

Sandie replied about 13 hours after.you are tired in the physical
dry in the spiritual
and when you close your eyes you are looking up at the wrong 'sun'...
Come on boy, take yourself by the scruff of the neck and give yourself a shaking down!
Much love

Mark replied about 15 hours after.Bloody typical! Here we are exerting much time, energy and focus putting your career to rights, mulling over whether that F minor 7th was really the best choice following the key change to the bridge, and the like, or whether the leather hat is better than the 'Donny Hathaway' cap, all you are doing is sunning yourself like some spoiled international playboy in some camping site in Southend. Christ, there's gratitude for you...bloody pampered self obsessed pop stars!!!! And on the false name thing there must be some milage in an anagram of Foy Vance (particularly if you've got a middle name?). Lewis Taylor's was Slow Reality which, in his case, was somewhat apt! Answers on one of your dad's old ten pound notes of which false names Foy should use for his up coming prog-bluegrass triple album to... Mark Ede, Insanity Towers, Hove, Sussex (next to beach hut no 5, second on the left...)
mark replied 1 day after.Oh, Mr Moderator ...you've censored my witty ramblings but allowed some Italian desserts stuff up there..what is going on.
Is this cricket?
mark replied 1 day after. Now I'm really confused. My witty ramblings (which don't appear so witty in the cold light of day) are now back up but the Italian dessert recipe is no more. Blooody hell, here I am in the kitchen with me big wooden spoon, an ounce of butter, two broken eggs and a drooling mouth and, bang, I'm, left in the lurch...
Rock and roll.
Mr Moderator replied 1 day after.sorry about that Mark, all fixed now though!
Sandi, I think Foy was being frivolous so no need to fret, but on the other hand if you live in a world with more than one sun, maybe you do ;)!

Sandie replied 1 day after.Dear R
Aah well! My apologies, but I know what I meant and I imagine Foy does too.
All the best and God Bless.
Gaz replied 1 day after.Holy ghost Foy! That post took me in a few different directions... kinda like listening to Bjork. I can't decide whether your brother might be insane or an absolute genius but he could officially be my new hero for his wedding strategy. Safe.
larry Frank Campbell replied 1 day after.hi foy, my family (which includes my wife, adult son and daughter, and adult nephew) just finished a six day road trip across western canada to celebrate my parents' 80th birthday and 55th anniversary. amazing. while traveling we played "hope" three or four times the last two or three at my son's request. it was gratifying to have the generations moved by your poetry and music. i have yet to listen to "indiscriminate acts of kindness" or "gabriel and the vagabond" without tears. as to the last song i finally figured out why...i am the vagabond. thank you.
Old Bloke replied 3 days after.Hey, this is all getting a bit 60s. I've never really understood what existentialism is. Looked it up in the dictionary and it says "philosophy that man can only be free through full consciousness of his illogical position in a meaningless universe". Now that is what my kids would say is cool. If they knew I had actually used that word in real life they would probably never speak to me again. Foy, you should read Sebastian Faulkes "Engleby". Very interesting perspective. There's a bit in it where he considers the illogicality of an absent God i.e. if he's a loving God why doesn't he show up? Well, it is Friday afternoon.
