Radio 2 Playlist

You may have been hearing the remix of Shed a Little light on Radio2 of late...?  That's because I've been added to the Radio 2 playlist (he said with a rather large grin)...

I remember when I first started tuning into the radio, usually on a Sunday for the TOP40...  I used to LOVE it!  I don't think radio had quite as profound an impact on me and my peers as it did my parents generation, but it was still my main source for hearing new music.  My brother had loads of records so I listened to them a lot, but he was a bit of an eclectic collector, so he didn't always have the stuff that had just entered the charts (this is when the charts were relevant).  So I used to tape the Chart show every week and then run the tape into the ground for the next 7 days.

As soon as I started really creating my own music, I became more interested in that, than hearing what was new.  And when I felt like I needed to hear something I hadn't heard before, by this time I would get it from a friend.  Radio became less and less important to me....

BUT...even though I've neglected the relationship with my radio over the years, and it's no longer the musical zeitgeist for me, this playlist-ing at Radio2 has really meant a lot to me!

Maybe it's a selfish desire for endorsement...a need to be patted like a dog... whatever it is; getting this seal of approval is like having my tummy tickled...

I've been getting emails from people who'd never heard of me before hearing it on the radio.  That makes me feel like I'm not part of the story, radio's lineage, if you like.. and that feels good!

If you haven't heard it yet, just listen into Radio 2 for the next few weeks and you're sure to hear it...

The remix is by Future Cut, who usually work with Dizzy Rascal, Lilly Allen, Kate Nash and those sort of artists... you would imagine it was a bit of a departure for us all to work together but it wasn't!   I love that about music... it's no respecter of genres ... it's either good or bad.  I liked their work and they liked mine so it didn't matter what sort of artist I was or what genre I came under.  It's a good cut... at least, I think so anyway... it's fat and juicy on the bottom end and good and airy on the top... like a well cooked aubergine in a Cajun hot sauce...

It's available from iTunes and here on this site on the 28th April....  I'll let you know just before it's release....  I'll be releasing it with a remix of Be With Me by The Free Association (aka David Holmes), which you can hear an excerpt of on my Myspace...

Right, that's enough rambling for one day... speak later...fv
