what a day...

Thursday, 20 September 2007

I was woke this morning at 07:15 by the fire alarm at the hotel I was staying at...  I get so grumpy when I don't get enough sleep.  I begrudgingly got dressed and went outside, in the full knowledge that it was a false alarm - call me cynical, but I just knew it was!  I was so grumpy.  I went back in - when they realised it was nothing and tried to get back to sleep, which I eventually did, then I was woke up by the phone ringing tell me 'Sir, you have to check out at 11am and it's 20 past now'... I was in such a flap. By the time I shimmed down the corridors, that went on forever and had endless amounts of awkward doors, with my suitcase, my guitar and my box of CDs.  Cantankerous and sweating, I arrived at the car to see a fine on the window.  I'd clearly got it the previous night at the gig and not noticed.  I threw my stuff in the bag of the wagon and did my check to make sure I had everything, only to find that the CD and DVD I'd bought the day before were nowhere to be found...?

The only thing I could think of was that I'd left them at the shop the day before so I made the journey back to the store, but to no avail.  Then it dawned on me that leaving the shop I'd dropped my stuff on the car park, they clearly fell out then and I didn't notice them... "It's no big deal" I said to myself "this is not an indication of how this day will go"... at which point I realised the time.  I looked at the sat nav to see that I was due to arrive in Nottingham at 17:46...  46 minutes after I was supposed to arrive at BBC Nottingham and 14 minutes before I was due to be sound checking at the venue.... aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnd breath.

Needless to say I didn't get the chance to have anything to eat.  I just went straight to the BBC did my session and left at around 18:40 by the time all was said and done.  I hopped in the motor and tyoed the venue address into the sat nav (who's called Jane) which insisted on trying to send me down one way streets the wrong way, and when I didn't do as she said, it took so long for her to gather her thoughts and give me the new directions, she annouced them just as I was passing the road she was suggesting I turn up... bloody frustrating...

Nonetheless, I got to the gig, did the gig, which was all good - aside from the dry ice overdose, it all felt a bit Cliff Richard.  Then I thought 'I'll go and get something to eat, to treat myself'.  The only place I could find that was open wasn't that healthy looking, but it was late and I was hungry.

I ordered pizza.  What I got, I can only describe as having all the ingredients of pizza but without the pizza, somehow.  It smelt like Chinese food, in the car and tasted like... well, nothing really.  It simply didn't taste at all!

So aside from a pleasant session at the BBC and a good gig, the day's been a bit of a ball ache.  Thank goodness I've got you guys to whinge to... and more importantly that I'm going home tomorrow for a good old pat on the bag!

Sorry to hear about your crap day. I let some friends know that they were going to want to kiss me on the mouth for showing your music to them. Keep it up man.

Sorry to hear the traffic nazis got you. The gig at Social was truly amazing (apart from the dry ice, which they cranked up to thick fog just after you'd finished, leaving us to stumble, choking from the room with more haste than 4 pints of lager would usually permit). Hope today runs a little smoother for you!

It always amazes me how ruthlessly efficient traffic wardens are...try to get anything else (like solving crime) done in this country and you've more luck trying to find a pork chop at a Jewish wedding, but the very second you turn your back on your car a warden has swooped! Anyway, rant over...looking forward to seeing you perform on Monday!

Traffic Wardens... Police... they're all the same, seemingly! After leaving your gig at the black box on the thursday night (it was outstanding) me and three friends went back to my mates car to travel home, only to find a ticket on the window... as the time on the ticket was for only one minute before our arrival, the peelers who had placed it were still there, and seemed to enjoy our little guessing game as to why we had received it... Turns out it was because we were parked facing the wrong direction in a one way street :-S But I mean, we were the only car in the street... and it was an out of the way street... and surely at nearly midnight on a thursday night, the police could be doing something more worthwhile in Belfast...

I managed to see Foy at HMP Full Sutton as a teacher I might add, not an inmate! Can I say thank you for giving these guys something to inspire them. The vs havent stopped talking about the gig yet! Your performance was absolutely awesome, genuine and totally uplifting and inspiring. The teachers that came along said we'd give it ten minutes, but were transfixed by your beautiful songs. I hadnt heard of you before but will be getting your album on Saturday. Unconditional act of kindness was a winner for me and actually changes the way I feel generally towards people in every day life, which in my job is useful sometimes. Your songs have the power to change lives, and I hope some of the people listening at Full Sutton feel the same. Thank you!!!

Ah mate. What a MAAAAAAAAARE! Are you turning into Big Ken? I'm with you on the sleep thing. The smoke alarm in my room here was beeping every 5 minutes during the night, so I did what any sane person would do - pulled it off the ceiling and threw it outside. The only downside is that the plaster dust that came with it makes it look like I've had a cocaine party in the room. BEEP!

You might be happy to know that although you had a crap day, you have brightened up mine, listened to you on J Ross, bought the CD last week, the damned thing just keeps growing on me like all quality music should, close my eyes and just get whisked away, not much music reaches inside you, but this did, it moved me, and all that for just over a tenner! Any chance of a gig in Kent or better still Maidstone. Keep up the good work, have a beter day tomorrow> Marc The Spark
