Belfast humour...
Sunday, 11 November 2007
I'm back in Belfast this week working with David Holmes, if you can call it work; I'm having a ball!He did a gig last night in a spit and sawdust gaff on the Lagan and I played a short set, it was good fun. It felt very bohemian. We ended up round at the Rotterdam bar until 4am...good Guinness, a fire lite and good company, you couldn't be up to it.
Went to the Ormeau Rd this morning(/afternoon) for breakfast and enjoyed and Ulster Fry... BLISS!
Looked out the window and saw this...

Went to Lanzarote about 9 years ago and used to frequent a certain bar, got drinks served by Matt and Annie and I'm sure you used to provide the entertainment.

Ahvarahn replied 2 days after.Good to see you blogging mucker. Saw you at Joe’s Pub in NYC, ach, two years ago, it was brilliant, and when I was back seeing me Ma late August, I spotted you wandering up Great Vic St. I was hopping on the Terror Tour bus and should've invited you. Plenty of sights like the above picture. Sticking out it was.
Keep ‘er lit.
Barry Vance replied 6 days after.Mandella Hall. What a performance. How does a local boy get a voice like that.
Like Ray Lamontagne crossed with Radiohead. As you see my name is also Vance. Dont know weather its a good thing or not but aperently we look very alike, so much in fact that my wife nicked a poster last night. The concerning thing is Im 52, a generation older than you. think about it. Just ordered your CD. See you played Joe's NY. Was it not a bit off putting every one sitting eating meals. How come you havent been on 'Later' I mean if Duke Special is invited on, has Jules just not heard you. What kit do you use for all those loops during the gig.
ally simpson replied 6 days after.Happy Birthday Dude!!

Hannah replied 7 days after.Foy...when are you coming to the states? Particularly Colorado? We like your stuff out here. It would be worth your time :)
Louise replied 7 days after.Who was the support in the Mandella Hall gig? You were both amazing - loved 'Shed a little light' esp.
Brendan replied 8 days after.Hi Foy, Bumped into you in the errigle back bar last week and had a brief chat, just want to say congrats on the mandela gig, it was fantastic. Really enjoyed "Home," and the crowd participation in "Still havent found," must have blown you away!! As an aspiring musician i take great comfort in seeing local lads giving it stacks here in Belfast. Ill drop you a line on the myspace sometime and you can let me know what you think!! Keep er lit
Kim replied 10 days after.Hey. Just wanted to say the gig in the Sugar Club on the Monday was amazing. And everyone with me was just as impressed. I think my dad and a friend were in a state of shock! Was so glad you did Homebird. Watermelon Oranges is brilliant. And i was one of the voices shouting for Bailies Blood, thanks for playing it, it's one of my favourites. It was really nice to meet you after the gig and get an autograph. All my Dad could do was shake your hand and say "Class". He is quite obsessed with your music since i introduced him to the cd. Nearly as much as me. Loved all your stories too, very funny! Don't take too long in coming back to Dublin please. We'll all be there again.
Cameron replied 10 days after.Hi Foy,
Music Awesome, Voice Awesome, Performance AWESOME! Just wondering if you could take some precious time and put some of your music with chords and your weird tuning online? Would love to play it myself. Cheers
Barry Vance replied 11 days after.I second that request from 'Cameron' hence my question what kit you use. Dont worry, I'll hardly be stealing your style, I only play to the dog in the kitchen (no, not my wife, a real dog) I have a Seagul 12 string and just aquired a Line 6 modling guitar that can sound like 20 other makes.
Rory replied 14 days after.Foy, spoke to you briefly in the Empire recently when you were at Ken Haddock's album launch. Missed the Mandella gig, but if you're playing in Belfast anytime soon, I'll be there. Album is top class, and as a budding singer/songwriter you're an inspiration. Keep 'er lit!
Mark Reynolds replied 15 days after.Saw you in Brighton last night at The Freebutt. Its hard to put into words just how special it was but I certainly didn't expect to be moved like that on a Monday night in November. My wife bought me your album a week ago after hearing you on Loose Ends and I haven't stopped playing it. Gabriel and the Vagabond was a sublime highlight for me in an emotionally absorbing set and I'm only sad you didn't come out afterwards so we could show you our genuine appreciation. An incredible and inspiring night and hope to see you again soon. Meanwhile, I shall keep spreading the word.
Dom Tribe replied 15 days after.Hi Foy. Love the new album, and the Brighton gig was awesome, but I'm a little disappointed you didn't stay long enough to sign my CD. Maybe next time you could hang around for a few minutes for those of us that make the effort to travel to see you. Take care,
Dom
Andy Smith replied 17 days after. Thanks for an amazing night in bristol. My family and friends have been following you for quite a while now. I had not had the chance to see you play live until last night at the louisianna. You have a Truely unique style that is enhanced 10 fold by your amazing live performance. Thanks for the sing song. keep up the great work loved the new material. All the best
Andy
Steph Holliday replied 17 days after.I would like to back up everything Andy just said, the gig last night in Bristol was amazing. Andy has been playing your music in the car for ages and I was really excited when he said we had tickets to your gig! But hearing you live was fab, I've never experienced a live performance like that. Loved it when you sang in to the guitar and looped your vocals, it was all fantastic. Thanks for signing the album. Hope to see you again soon. Steph x
